The Invention of Lying (2009)

Imagine a world where lies simply do not exist. Imagine a world where people have never thought of saying something that... isn't. Imagine a world where no self-containment exists either. Only the sincere, impulsive, unconstrained expression of thoughts and feelings, either positive or negative in nature. The flick gives us a surrealistic presentation of a familiar world, as perceived by a love-struck man whose looks and current social status make it impossible for him to win the heart of his sweetheart. Fate is not so unfair with him however, as he is granted the most unique - in a unique world - of super powers. He can lie! The movie progresses nicely, and despite the humorous albeit unavoidably suggestive approach, it surprised me with how quickly it tended to answer my just-raised questions, creating from them at the same time a completely new situation and topic for the movie to focus on. Good cast and a story that, while based on a concept with great potential, it follows paths easy-to-follow providing nevertheless an enjoyable ride for a little more than one and a half hours. Recommended.
