Up in the Air (2009)

In this drama, Ryan Bingham (George Clooney) does a job that suits him perfectly. What is his job? To fire people. In fact, he is pretty good at it. People change however. Modern life necessities on the other hand do not. This movie treads with one foot on light ground and with the other in deep dark waters. One moment it tries to be Zeitgeist, the next one is Pretty Woman. Ambitious and pretentious what co-writer and director Jason Reitman tries to do and cleverly, he doesn't focus on events and situations, but on how these reflect upon the main character's personality. I can not say the movie maintains a good balance and this is why it provoked me into making the aforementioned distinctions and comparisons in the first place. The acting is good, but generic and there were times in the 100+ minutes long movie, when my gaze literally wandered beyond the screen out of indifference. That said, the movie was quite enjoyable overall but certainly, its critically acclaimed scenario fell short of expectations. Not because it was weak as a concept but due to how it was made to feel so. Recommended if out of options.
