Walter Black (Mel Gibson) is the husband of Meredith (Jodie Foster) who suffers from boredom, depression and lacks the will to communicate with people. He solves this problem by adopting a beaver hand-puppet in the trash, however the beaver reveals a side of his personality he cannot live with. Sooner or later he realises that and pays the consequences. A very good acting by Mel Gibson playing both the role of Walter Black and the Beaver. Nothing so special in the direction of Jodie Foster.
