Män som hatar kvinnor (2009)

The story of this swedish thriller, aka The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, takes place in a realistic modern setting. The flick follows a conscientious journalist as he delves into a wealthy clan's past, in an effort to unravel the mystery behind the 16 years old - at the time of the tragedy - daughter's  disappearance. At least, this is the backbone of the plot, because the film introduces the main characters through their own side stories, each one of the latter being neatly incorporated into the main plot. The direction infused a mystery story with more mystery and noteworthily, without being misleading. Very few uninteresting scenes that didn't bore however, neither broke the excitement - probably because of their short length and definitely because of the wonderful cast - while on the other hand, contributed to making a living, breathing world, even more lifelike. And while the two and a half hours journey is enjoyable and quite mind-boggling, I found the logical and nonetheless realistic explanation at the end somewhat unconvincing. No matter, a very good movie. Recommended.
