Capitalism: A Love Story (2009)

And like this, Michael Moore gives away his intentions and the tone of his latest documentary about the system of Capitalism and its extensions to real American life. Powerful and provocative, this two hours long report focuses on the schemes laid out by an elite corporate oligarchy, and how financial power permeates the political constitution, in essence, directing the lives of thousands of everyday people into abjection. Although I found its pacing and structure somewhat sub-par in comparison to previous works of his, it is typical of Michael Moore to create very well told and engaging documentaries and this one is no exception. Specialist insights, examplary retrospection, from the people's perspective, everything is explained simply and presented with appropriate and wistful sarcasm, as well as his typical cruel efficiency in exploiting for better or worse human grief and despair in order to get his point across. It might stir the need for introspection, it might be a complete waste of time, it is doubtful however for those who are still reading these lines that they will not find enough meaning in this documentary. And as any of its kind, it is a must watch, not because it is necessarily a life changer, but because it necessarily succeeds in having people think about some fundamental truths, by most long forgotten.
