The golden compass (2007)

The story comes from the book of Philip Pullman "His dark materials". A little, intelligent girl  wants to save little kids from being separated from their demons (animals that are somehow bonded to you). It is a fictional story with a lot of freedom for the director. I was expecting more in this aspect, although I have to say that the director has translated a lot of parts of the book very correctly into picture and scenes. Another thing is the acting of Nicole Kidman, who doesn't really succeed in incarnating her character. I also have to admit that having read the book, and essentially the whole trilogy, there are two feelings in the end: disappointment in comparison to the book and a feeling that something is left in the middle. Nevertheless, I had some fun watching it.
